Dr. Daniel S. Lehman of White Plains, a urologist at Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel, tied for first place in the clinical category of the 2007 essay contest of the Endourological Society, a nonprofit organization that facilitates the scientific dialogue among endourologists.

Andrew N. Karlen of Rye, a member of the law firm Karlen & Stolzar, White Plains, received a Certificate in Family Business Advising with Fellow Status from the Family Firm Institute, Boston, a professional membership organization, for his extensive experience and commitment to the field of family business advising.

Sound Shore Medical Center, New Rochelle, received a $1 million gift from The Louis R. Cappelli Foundation. The foundation donated $500,000 for the creation of the Jacee Lynn Cappelli Diabetes Center and $500,000 for the medical center’s capital campaign. Louis R. Cappelli, president of Cappelli Enterprises Inc., Valhalla, a real estate development company, is founder and chairman of the foundation that bears his name.

Richmond Community Services, Mount Kisco, a nonprofit agency that serves individuals with developmental disabilities and complex health issues, received a $50,000 grant from the Thomas and Agnes Carvel Foundation. The grant enabled Richmond Community Services to open a training center that provides orientation, training programs and management development workshops at its headquarters.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester, Mount Kisco, nonprofit organization that provides programs and services for the youth, received a $5,000 grant from Target, Minneapolis, a discount retailer. The grant will be used to expand the organization’s programming in 2008.

Select Telecom, Valhalla, a provider of telecommunications products and services, announced contracts for new IP telephony with HH Brown Shoe Co., a footwear company, and Paradigm, a talent agency. Select Telecom will install two IP telephone systems for HH Brown - one in its Andover, Mass., office and another in its Greenwich, Conn., office. Select Telecom is installing more than 100 IP phone systems in the New York City office of Paradigm.

Blue Chip Public Relations Inc., South Salem, a public relations agency, announced that it has been retained by Colorado author James O. Lunney to promote his new book, “Surviving the Storm, Investment Strategies That Help You Maximize Profit and Control Risk During the Coming Economic Winter.”

 


Newsmakers

Peggy Northrop of Brooklyn was appointed U.S. editor-in-chief of Reader’s Digest magazine by The Reader’s Digest Association Inc., Pleasantville, a global publisher and direct marketer of books, magazines, music collections and video. Since 2004, Northrop was editor-in-chief of Meredith’s More magazine. Prior to that, she was editor-in-chief of Rodale’s Organic Style. Northrop holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

Steven Solomon of Pleasantville was appointed executive vice president of sales and marketing at Ergotech Group Inc., Elmsford, a designer and manufacturer of flat-panel screen mounting systems. Since 1983, Solomon worked at Fuji Photo Film USA, Valhalla, most recently as senior vice president and general manager of its recording media division, previously as vice president and general manager of its computer products division, and earlier as general manager of its computer media division.

Joseph DeCarlo of Bethel, Conn., was appointed vice president of sales and marketing at KVL Audio Visual Services, Ardsley, a supplier of audiovisual equipment rental and staging services, and for its related companies. Since 1994, DeCarlo worked at SAI Global-Excel Partnership Inc., Southbury, Conn., culminating as a vice president. He holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Manhattan College.

Dr. Mark R. Weigle was appointed director of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Sound Shore Medical Center, New Rochelle. Weigle has been a member of the medical center’s staff since 1998. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Cornell University and a medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

NAI Friedland Realty, Yonkers, a commercial real estate services company, announced the following appointments.

Evan Rothberg of Rye Brook joined the company as an investment director and marketing specialist. Most recently, Rothberg was a private developer and investor. From 1976 to 1999, Rothberg was president of Evan Rothberg, C.P.A., P.C., White Plains, a public accounting firm that he founded in 1976. From 1979 to 2000, he was also president of Rothberg Associates Inc., White Plains, a financial management company that he founded in 1979. Rothberg holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Bridgeport.

Andrew Grossman of Rye Brook joined the company as an industrial specialist. Since 1999, Grossman was an account manager at Westgate Inc., New York City. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and marketing from Boston University.

Michael Rozen of Scarsdale, vice president and director of the Joseph F. Stein Family Foundation, White Plains, was named executive chairman of the United Hebrew Geriatric Center, New Rochelle, a not-for-profit multiservice senior living campus. Rozen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in public relations from Boston University.

Real Estate Update

Eric Lebenson of Briarcliff Manor was promoted to branch manager of the Briarcliff Manor office of Prudential Rand Realty. Lebenson joined the company in March 2007 as an associate broker in the Briarcliff Manor office. Prior to that, he was an associate broker at a real estate company in Ossining. Lebenson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Bucknell University.

Houlihan Lawrence, Bronxville, announced an online marketing partnership with Trulia.com, a real estate Web site. Under terms of the agreement, Houlihan Lawrence listings and branding will receive featured placement on Trulia’s Web site when users search homes for sale in the lower Hudson Valley.

IVI International Inc., a construction/environmental consultancy, signed a lease for 13,000 square feet of space at 106 Corporate Park Drive, White Plains. CB Richard Ellis represented IVI.
