Pace University School of Law, White Plains, presented its 2007 Distinguished Service Awards to Noah J. Hanft of New York City, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer at MasterCard Worldwide, Purchase, and Janet A. Johnson of Briarclifff Manor, a professor at Pace Law School since 1989, for their contributions to the legal community.

Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, announced that it has received a five-year grant totaling $3,949,781 from the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities. The grant will fund lab renovations, research equipment, research development training for junior faculty, and student-focused activities related to improving minority health and the elimination of health disparities in minority populations.

Westchester Arc, White Plains, a nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals with disabilities, was awarded a $450,000 challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation, Troy, Mich., to be applied toward the agency’s first capital campaign. The campaign is raising funds to help pay for construction of a facility in Hawthorne, and to build a Fund for the Future. The Kresge grant stipulates that Westchester Arc raise the balance of its capital campaign goal - an additional $982,000 - by Jan. 1, 2009, in order to receive the award.

 


 

Newsmakers

Jonathan Sawyer of Larchmont was appointed to the newly created position of creative partner at Re:think Group, Stamford, Conn., a brand communications agency. Since 1986, Sawyer was CEO and creative director of Jericho Communications, New York City, which he co-founded in 1986. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Tulane University.

Cathleen Giannetta of Scarsdale joined the White Plains office of the law firm Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker L.L.P. as a partner. Most recently, Giannetta was a member at the law firm Landman Corsi Ballaine & Ford, New York City. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Fordham University.

Dan Campbell of Bedford Hills rejoined InsightExpress, Stamford, Conn., an online marketing research firm, as director of media and publishing, a newly created role. Most recently, Campbell was vice president of sales at Kaava, White Plains. From 1999 to 2006, he was group director, advertising media at InsightExpress. Campbell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance, both from Long Island University.

Barbara Thibault of Bronxville was appointed director of catering sales at the Ritz-Carlton, Westchester, White Plains, a hotel scheduled to open in mid-November. Most recently, Thibault was director of catering at The Roosevelt Hotel, Manhattan. Before that, she spent six years as the assistant director of catering at the New York Palace Hotel, Manhattan.

Renee Brown of South Salem, chief executive officer of C.W. Brown Inc., Thornwood, a general contracting firm, was appointed to the board of directors of the National Minority Business Council, New York City, a nonprofit organization that provides services to minority- and women-owned business.

Theodore A. Mathas of Armonk, president and chief operating officer of New York Life Insurance Co., New York City, was named to the board of directors of the American Council of Life Insurers, Washington, D.C., a trade association. Mathas holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Virginia.

Real Estate Update

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Connecticut and Westchester County announced the following appointments in its White Plains office.

Toni Guida of White Plains joined the company as an associate broker. Most recently, Guida worked at Century 21 Wolff. Prior to that, she practiced law. Guida holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Binghamton University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Syracuse University.

Jeff Rogan of White Plains joined the company as an associate broker. Most recently, Rogan worked at Century 21 Wolff. Prior to that, he practiced law. Rogan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Niagara University and both a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and a Master of Public Administration degree from Syracuse University.

Francine Stern of Hartsdale joined the White Plains office of Houlihan Lawrence as a salesperson. Since 1994, Stern worked at Weichert Realtors in White Plains. Prior to that, she worked at Magic Real Estate, Great Neck. Before that, she worked at Gutterman Real Estate, Great Neck. Stern holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooklyn College.
