Carol J.W. Kurth of Bedford, the principal of The Office of Carol J.W. Kurth, Architect, AIA, P.C., Bedford, an architectural firm, received a Townsend Harris Medal from the Alumni Association of the City College of New York for outstanding postgraduate achievements.

York International Agency L.L.C., Yonkers, an insurance broker, received a 2007 Best Practices Award from the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, Alexandria, Va. The annual award is given to agencies that are guided by the highest principles and standards in the insurance industry.

The Mount Kisco Day Care Center, Mount Kisco, announced that the day-care center raised $80,000 for its scholarship programs at its annual Feed Me Fresh - An Edible Evening event, held at the Ivanna Farm in Mount Kisco.

 


 

Newsmakers

Gil C. Quiniones of Manhattan was appointed executive vice president, energy marketing and corporate affairs at the New York Power Authority, White Plains, a state-owned electric utility. Most recently, Quiniones was senior vice president of energy and telecommunications at the New York City Economic Development Corp. Prior to that, he was a founder of ConEdison Solutions, White Plains. Quiniones has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from De La Salle University.

Evelyn Morales was appointed director of the Westchester County office of Lighthouse International, a nonprofit organization that provides vision health-care services, based in White Plains. Most recently, Morales was vice president of community health services at Elant Inc., Goshen. Prior to that, she was vice president of community health services at Selfhelp Community Services, New York City. Morales holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from New York University.

Gayle Cratty of Yonkers was appointed director of community relations and development at Sail at Ferncliff Manor, Yonkers. a private school for children with developmental disabilities. Since 1992, Cratty was executive director of Heartsong, Bronxville, a music and art therapy program for children with disabilities that she co-founded in 1992. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Georgian Court University.

Timothy Donohue of White Plains was appointed a senior associate in the Stamford, Conn., office of CB Richard Ellis Inc., a commercial real estate services firm. Most recently, Donohue was an associate in the White Plains office of Jones Lang LaSalle. Prior to that, he was an associate at McCarthy Associates, White Plains, which was subsequently acquired by Jones Lang LaSalle. Donohue holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Villanova University.

Adiel Gavish of North Salem was appointed sustainability strategist at Cameron-Cole L.L.C., Pleasantville, an environmental management and consulting firm. Since 2005, Gavish was program director of Federated Conservationists of Westchester County, White Plains. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, announced the following appointments to its board of trustees.

Gary A. Bernstein of Fishkill, vice president of finance transformation and vitality at IBM Corp., based in Hopewell Junction, joined the board. Bernstein holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Drexel University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

William M. Mooney Jr. of White Plains, president of the Westchester County Association, White Plains, a business membership organization committed to business advocacy and economic vitality, joined the board. Mooney holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Manhattan College.

Maureen Pace of Yorktown Heights, vice president of operations at Mount Vernon Hospital, Mount Vernon, was named to the board of directors of the American Red Cross in Westchester County, White Plains. Pace holds a Master of Science degree in health care from Iona College.

Real Estate Update

Houlihan Lawrence announced the following appointments.

Cindy Waxman of New Rochelle joined the company’s Scarsdale office of as an associate broker. Since 2000. Waxman was an associate broker at Prudential Wykagyl/Rittenberg Realty, New Rochelle. Earlier, she worked in advertising and marketing at various New York City advertisement agencies. Waxman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Nick Borowitz of South Salem joined the company’s South Salem office as a salesperson. Most recently, Borowitz worked at Peter Riolo Real Estate, Hastings-on-Hudson. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Mercy College.

Keller Williams NY Realty, White Plains, announced the following appointments.

Charles Kling of Thornwood joined the company as a sales agent. Kling formerly worked in a marketing capacity for seven years at Ran Oil, Ettenborough, Pa.

Paul Ross of Bronxville joined the company as a sales agent. Most recently, Ross was general manager and event planner at the Rascals Comedy Clubs in New Jersey. Prior to that, he was general manager and event planner at Amsterdam Billiards, New York City. Ross holds an associate degree in business management from Kingsborough Community College.

Emilexis Medina of Yonkers joined the company as a sales agent. Medina has three years of experience in the real estate field.
