For the boys and girls

Cheers echoed throughout Sleepy Hollow Country Club Saturday, June 7, as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester held its 14th annual Humanitarian Awards Dinner. Some 500 guests enjoyed dinner, dancing – despite the record heat – a live auction and commentary from former news anchor John Johnson, who was master of ceremonies.

The event’s theme, “Positively Nutritious,” highlighted the organization’s programs for healthy living and ensuring members have at least one hot meal a day. More than $1 million was raised at the event; $400,000 of which was donated to fund a new kitchen/ canteen in the Mount Kisco facility, where staff will cook meals for members and host nutrition and cooking classes.

Award recipients included: Laureen Barber, 2008 Humanitarian Award; state Assemblyman Adam T. Bradley, 89th District, John Beach Charity Award; Nnamdi Anuforo, member of the Tarrytown Center Club and senior at Sleepy Hollow High School, Youth of the Year Award; and Raymond Estrella, member of the Tarrytown Center Club and active contributor to the Keystone Club, Chris Cutri Memorial Award.

Seema Boesky, Entergy Nuclear, Maria and George Roach, and Bonnie and Tom Trotta were the dinner’s platinum sponsors.
