The Picture House backers hosted a gala at the Hilton Rye Town this month in support of a remake of Pelham’s 1920s-era, 383-seat movie venue into a pair of state-of-the-art theaters with twin missions of entertainment and education. The theater is commonly known as the Pelham Picture House and that name will remain on its historic facade after renovations – slated to begin a year from now and to last about 10 months – are complete. The Picture House slogan says it all: Life, Art, Popcorn.

 

TV’s “Medium” and Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket” actor (and director) Arliss Howard and “Desperate Housewives” actor Shirley Knight, a three-time Emmy winner, presenters of the evening’s awards

 

Emcee, actor and comedian Nick Kroll, originally from Rye, and the evening’s honorees: four-time Academy Award nominee and former director of the National Endowment for the Arts Jane Alexander and Bob Berney, who was responsible for distributing “Whale Rider,” “Monster” and “The Passion of The Christ.”
