Caregivers get a break at Northern Westchester Hospital

Marian Hamilton of Armonk and County Executive Andy Spano at the ribbon cutting for the Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. The center is the culmination of two years of planning and fundraising by Hamilton, whose husband died of a rare lung cancer in 2004. It will serve as an oasis for family caregivers who need some personal time from the bedside of a chronically ill loved one.

Hamilton raised $900,000 for construction, furnishings and an endowment through community donations and a matching grant.

Armonk shops give gift to Gilda’s

Armonk shops Lilies and Lace, Pink Tea and S&S Boutiques turned Main Street into a “Holiday Shopping Party” to benefit Gilda’s Club Westchester. The shops featured trunk shows, silent auctions, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, wine raffles and prizes to socially conscious shoppers who looked to give two gifts for the price of one this holiday season.

Morton’s takes the cake

National Chocolate Day was October 28 and to celebrate, Morton’s The Steakhouse in White Plains donated a portion of sales from its Legendary Hot Chocolate Cake to Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley. “We are pleased to donate $500 from our sales of chocolate cake to Make-A-Wish,” said Jim Monaghan, general manager for Morton’s in a statement.

Happy birthday Sam’s!

Sam’s of Gedney Way in White Plains is commemorating its 75th anniversary this month with a December menu that features 75-cent desserts and root beer. For the occasion, the restaurant has brought back desserts from its early years like peach melba and apple pie. The special menu, as well as other planned promotions, will continue through Dec. 31.
