Stewed turkey?

Stew Leonard’s helped feed nearly 30,000 people recently with turkeys donated by various communities for the 28 annual “Turkey Brigade.”

The supermarket chain distributed a record 2,063 turkeys to 101 organizations including churches, civic groups, elderly housing, senior nutrition programs and schools as well as police and fire departments in Yonkers and Norwalk, Newington and Danbury, Conn.

The Yonkers store, at One Stew Leonard Drive, distributed 320 turkeys to 33 area organizations that help provide Thanksgiving day meals for families in need.

Tini-toasting the holidays

Need a shot of holiday spirit after a long day at work? Stop by Morton’s The Steakhouse on Maple Avenue in White Plains to taste a new line of holiday-themed cocktails or “Mortinis” created by mixologist Francesco Lafranconi (then take a cab home).

Each Heavenly Mortini will be topped with a Heavenly Foam made from fresh pear puree and cinnamon liqueur. Yum! Check it out:

- Heavenly Pear. Made with Absolut Pears vodka, pear puree, Caravella Limoncello and fresh lemon juice.

- Thyme Lemon Drop made with muddled thyme, Absolut Citron, Limoncello, fresh lemon and a dash of simple syrup served in a sugar rimmed glass.

- The “new Mojito,” the Caipirinha (a famous Brazilian drink pronounced Ki Pray Een Ya) made with Leblon Cachaca (Brazilian sugar cane spirit), muddled fresh lime with skins and simple syrup.

- Morton’s Champagne Cocktail, a classic made with sparkling wine, Gran Marnier and Pama pomegranate liqueur poured over a sugar cube laced with Fee Brother’s peach bitters and served in a champagne flute with a cinnamon sugar rim.

Beer lovers can get Chimay “Premier” Belgian Trappist Ale and the limited release of Sam Adams “Utopias.” And Margarita lovers aren’t neglected either. Morton’s Heavenly and Cadillac Margaritas will use pure agave nectar as the sweetening agent in place of triple sec.

Wrap it up!

Dorothy M. Cali Balancio, professor at Mercy College, Antonino Teresi, assistant store manager at Chef Central, Vinny Brown, store manager at Chef Central, and Exchange Club members Lindsay Astor and Maria Petroni-Kowgios.

Mercy College and Chef Central on Central Park Avenue in Hartsdale are joining forces to raise money for the Child Abuse Prevention Center of Westchester in White Plains.

Lindsay Astor and Maria Petroni-Kowgios.

The Exchange Club at Mercy College is rounding up volunteers to help gift wrap at the Chef Central location until Dec. 24. So all you nimble fingered do-gooders, stop by and sign up.

Meanwhile, avid shoppers can make a donation to this worthy cause while lessening their work load and letting someone else do the wrapping!

Wine-ing about it

A crowd of customers merrily sipped and snacked their way through Sound Shore Liquor Pantry at 800 East Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck recently as the store celebrated its seventh birthday with an eight-hour wine tasting that featured 150 wines and spirits.

Sound like a lot? No worries. Tables of tasty hors d’oeuvres and large spittoons were on hand to mitigate the sheer volume of alcohol.

A unique gift

Looking for that special gift for the connoisseur in your life this holiday season? Then head over to the Westchester Mall in White Plains to have your bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label engraved in your choice of four languages: English, Spanish, Chinese or Korean.

Whisky lovers beware: the Engraving Studio closes shop Dec. 31.

What’s in a name?

For the record, these new business names are listed in this week’s On the Record section.

Fifth most-interesting new business name:

Anything Artistic, New Hampton. (Last minute shopper’s mantra when buying for the family Renaissance man.)

Fourth most-interesting new business name:

Bad Beagle Bookkeeping and Administrative Support, Kerhonkson. (Snoopy and Woodstock always made an interesting team.)

Third most-interesting new business name:

Concrete Menu, Cornwall. (If the menu is that heavy, what will the pasta be like? And are those prices written in stone?)

Second most-interesting new business name:

Nest Design Studio, Woodstock. (Even Big Bird has become a metro-sexual.)

The most-interesting new business name:

Top Quality Hay, Patterson. (For the equestrian epicurean.)
