Northern Westchester Hospital: growing personalized care

Joel Seligman, Northern Westchester Hospital president and CEO; patient Laurie Netch of North Salem; Louise Palma, oncology nurse from the NWH Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center; Abe Levy, chief medical officer, Mount Kisco Medical Group; Rev. Donald Heringa, NWH director of pastoral care; Dr. Marla Koroly; Maria Hale, vice president for patient advocacy and service quality; Carrie Brady, quality and designation policy strategist for the Planetree organization.

Representatives from the Northern Westchester Hospital, the community and the Planetree organization pose by a London sycamore tree.

The tree was planted during a celebration announcing the hospital as one of the first of five in the country to be designated a Planetree patient-centered hospital.

The mission of Planetree Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Derby, Conn., is to personalize and demystify the health-care system. The organization was created by a patient in 1978 after she endured a traumatic health-care experience. Plane is another name for sycamore.

Bronxville Invaded!

Witches and Wizards (and robots and teenage mutant ninja turtles) flooded the sidewalks of Bronxville Oct. 29 to spook out treats from businesses along Pondfield Road. The scary mob, including parents, followed their collective sweet tooth from shop to shop. The horror, the horror.

Pitching in for breast cancer awareness

New Rochelle-based Steiner Sports Marketing teamed with the SASS Foundation, Women at Risk and the Libby Ross Foundation for an online auction featuring signed memorabilia during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Items being auctioned included a Joe Namath-signed New York Jets miniature helmet in pink, a Michael Strahan-signed photo in pink and a Chien Ming Wang-signed baseball in pink.

Many of the items had a pink-ribbon logo on them and others were signed in pink ink.

Star baseball players Johnny Damon and Lastings Milledge also contributed their John Hancocks to the cause.
