Accused workers face firing

The recent sexual harassment suit against Madison Square Garden was not isolated, merely high profile. Just over the border in Fairfield County, Conn., a pair of suits is defining the new, stern ground rules for a host of off-limits office behaviors.

 

While reforms in workers’ compensation legislation have given New York businesses and insurance agents some breathing room, “doing business in ‘real time’ will help us move forward,” said Martin Koles, president of the Professional Insurance Agents of New York.

 

Although the prevention of workplace violence has always been a topic of training for employers it is more important than ever. This is especially true in the wake of recent strings of violence, including the Virginia Tech massacre in March, the April shooting at NASA by an employee given a poor job performance rating, and another shooting that month at an accounting firm in Troy, Mich., as a result of an employee’s termination.

 

This is one sour note that would even make “American Idol” loser Sanjaya cringe.
