Jean B. Clifton was appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer at The Reader’s Digest Association Inc., Pleasantville, a global publisher and direct marketer of books, magazines, music collections and video. Most recently, Clifton was a principal at Platinum Strategic Partners L.L.C. From 1986 to 2006, she worked at Journal Register Co., Trenton, N.J., culminating as president and chief operating officer, and previously as executive vice president, CFO and treasurer. Clifton holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.

Doral Arrowwood, Rye Brook, a conference center and resort, announced the following appointments.

James Gambardella of Brewster was promoted to director of food and beverage. Since 2003, Gambardella was executive chef. He joined Doral in 1996 as culinary director. Prior to that, he was executive banquet chef at the Rainbow Room, New York City. Gambardella is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.

Michael Schmutzer of Yorktown Heights rejoined Doral as executive chef. Most recently, Schmutzer was executive sous chef at Abigail Kirsch Catering, Tarrytown. From 1999 to 2006, he worked at Doral, culminating as executive sous chef.

Karen Holubis of Brewster was appointed an employment specialist at Ability Beyond Disability, Bethel, Conn., and Mount Kisco, a nonprofit organization that provides services for people with disabilities. Since 2003, Holubis was an employment specialist and corporate outreach communicator in the Valhalla office of Careers For People With Disabilities. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in human ecology from the State University of New York at Oneonta.
