AvalonBay Communities Inc. -- the third-biggest apartment landlord in the nation -- is looking to build more high-rises and less “garden apartments” as well as expand its presence in the county.

Philip M. Wharton, AvalonBay’s vice president of development, offered a sneak peek at the company’s future when he spoke to members of the Westchester County Board of Realtors Commercial & Investment Division.
